Trimbakeshwar or Triambakeshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in Trimbak town near Nasik City, Maharashtra. It is 30 kilometers away from Nasik and 240 kilometers away from Pune.
Trimbakeshwar is one of the 12 JyotirLingas in India. As per Hindu legends there are 12 jyotirlingas in Indian subcontinent. It is said these Jyotirlingas are 'Swayambhu' or self- manifested. They are ultimate representation of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva present in these Jyotirlinga only for his followers.
Grisheneshwar at Ellora, Bhimashanklr, Parali Vaijanath of Parali and Aundha Nagnath are other Jyotirlingas of Maharashtra. The uniqueness of Trimbakeshwar is that the Shiva Ling has 3 faces.
The 3 faces depict the holy Trinity of Hinduism i.e Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. The temple is built on Brahmagiri foothills. The present temple of Trimbakeshwar is built with black stone. It depicts the Nagara Architectural style. It was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao during 18th century. Around the temple we can observe beautiful art of sculpture and carvings. In the temple complex there is “Kunda” or pond named as “Kushavartha Kunda”. River Godavari is originates from this Kushavartha Kunda.
The temple opens at 5:30 AM and closes at 9 PM. During the whole day different poojas and Abhishekas offered to Lord Trimbakeshwar. Rudrabhisheka is one one of the main offering to the lord One can also perform special poojas with pre-booking. In such case one need to follow strict dress code.Mahashivaratri is celebrated with lots of devotion.
‘Kumbh Mela’ or pilgrimage fair is held at Trimbakeshwar in every 12 years. Devotees take holy dip in the river Godavariand perform special rituals during Kumbh Mela. Kumbh Mela will be held when Jupeter or “Guru” walks in to “Simha Rashi”and this phenomenon happens once in 12 years. Huge numbers of Saints and Devotees gather at Trimbakeshwar to participate in Kumbh Mela. The next Kumbha Mela will be held in the year 2027. Tourists from all over the world come here to witness this massive festival of devotion.
